ACUPUNCTURE

“The green reed which bends in the wind
is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in the storm.”

-Confucius

What's my style?

I am fortunate to have studied with with Jeffrey Yuen, a master of Chinese medicine, who taught me the rarely-accessed Chinese medicine modalities as they were practiced before Mao came to power and before the Cultural Revolution. An 88th generation Taoist priest, Jeffrey taught us how Chinese Medicine was cultivated and administered before the spiritual and esoteric material was extracted and systematized to incorporate the medicine style of the West. Now referred to as Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) as opposed to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this system employs many different meridian systems in addition to the primary meridians most practitioners use today. The Luo vessels, Divergent pathways, Eight Extraordinary meridians and the musculo-skeletal Sinew meridians are all possible pathways for treatment and healing of varying conditions.

What differentiates this style more than anything is that it aims at treating the individual rather than the disease. A good example of this is that although many people may come down with a cold during the change of seasons, each person has a different constitution, immune system and resiliency. One treatment, point combination, or herb formulation will not be equally effective for all people despite their apparently similar symptoms. As such, I can draw from many meridian pathways to treat each individual depending on their unique constitutions, environment, and overall health.

What YOU RECEIVE:

  • a long or short check-in depending on your current state.

  • some guidance to help you unwind and get into your body once you are “on the table” in order to make the treatment itself more effective

  • 25-45 minute acupuncture session depending on your current needs

  • 5 minutes of integration time after the needles are removed. this may or may not involve a bit of body work.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY:

"Your advice and guidance were so incredibly helpful to my experience. And I know the acupuncture really kept things moving for me, which was what I wanted.  I think you pushed me in a really positive way that not everyone would have and that was exactly how it was meant to happen." - JW, Prenatal Yoga Teacher, Seattle
